Harry A. Thalwitzer
US Air Force Veteran
Harry A. Thalwitzer, 68, of Hopewell Township died Monday morning January 27, 2003 at home.
A lifelong resident of Hopewell Township, he was born in Hopewell and had lived at his current address since 1978. Mr. Thalwitzer was the son of the late Harry Lewis Thalwitzer and the late Mabel Sigafoo Thalwitzer. He was the husband of Linda D. (nee Bunnell) Thalwitzer.
He was a graduate of Bridgeton High School where he was a varsity football player and voted “best dancer” by his classmates. He was also a US Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Thalwitzer was employed as a foreman by South State Contractors of Bridgeton for the last thirty-two years.
He was a Mason and a member of Evening Star Lodge and a member of the Elks Lodge of Millville. A longtime hunter and fisherman, Mr. Thalwitzer was a member of the Buck Hill Gunning Club of Tuckahoe. He enjoyed fishing in the Cohansey River and Delaware Bay. In addition, he was a trapper and he liked snow skiing and raising beagles.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa J. Thalwitzer Willis and one son, Harry A. “Scott” Thalwitzer both of Hopewell Township, three grandsons, Jeremy M. Holt, Scott and Michael Thalwitzer, one step daughter, Dawn Riley of Florida, one stepson, Thomas Greynolds of Bridgeton, four step grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler Greynolds and Emily and Natasha McNaught. Additional survivors include one sister, Ethel Gergenti of Upper Deerfield Township, one half-brother, George Thalwitzer of California, a niece Jeanne and a great niece, Becky. He was predeceased by a son, Ryan L. Thalwitzer in 1990, two sisters, Edna Allen and Florence Granato and a half sister, Phyllis Durham.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning January 30th at 11 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton with Pastor Milton Akey of the Bridgeton First Church of the Nazarene officiating.
The interment will be made at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday morning from 9 until 11.
