Erich "Uncle B" Janus
Longtime Area Resident
Erich "Uncle B" Janus, 70, of Upper Deerfield Twp., died unexpectedly on Sunday morning July 4, 2010 at the SJ Regional Medical Center in Vineland where he had been a patient since last Thursday. He died after a long and courageous battle (5 years) with Parkinson Disease.
Born in Germany in 1940, Erich immigrated to Seabrook in 1956 and moved to his current address in 1960. He was the son of the late Stefan Janus and the late Paula Zelik (nee Sybon).
Mr. Janus worked as the shear leader for Glass Group Incorporated (formerly Wheaton Glass) in Millville for over 39 years. He retired with hopes of traveling to Germany, gardening, taking drives and making his famous chili only to be stricken with an illness that made impossible for him to enjoy his well deserved retirement. Erich's personality and love of life helped him cope with his disability.
He is survived by his sisters, Anni Ruckert and her companion Horst Raschke of Furth, Germany and sister and caregiver, Erika Friedman and her husband Harvey of Upper Deerfield Twp., a brother, Josef Zelik and his wife Judy of Upper Deerfield Twp., two nephews, Sammy Friedman and Joey Zelik both of Upper Deerfield Twp., one niece, Stefanie Parvin and her husband Scott of Upper Deerfield Twp. and one great nephew, Kaeden. He is also survived by close friends Joe Dicka and Peggy Sabla, friend and caregiver David Martin and by many additional good friends and good neighbors. He was preceded in death by one nephew Klaus Ruckert and brother-in-law Manfred Ruckert.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Liturgy on Friday morning July 9th at 10 o'clock at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 312 N. Pearl Street in Bridgeton.
The interment will take place at Laurel Lawn Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Twp.
Friends will be received at the church Friday morning between 9 and 10.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Janus' memory to the SJ Health Foundation, 2950 College Drive, Suite 1-F, Vineland, NJ 08360 or to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 312 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.
