Paul Bryson
World War II Veteran
Paul Bryson, 84, of Bridgeton died unexpectedly at home on Friday morning December 1, 2006.
Mr. Bryson was the husband of Hazel M. (nee Caldwell) Bryson and they had been married for sixty-three years. He was born in Addie, NC and was the son of the late Charles and Wila Mae (nee Allman) Bryson. A resident of Bridgeton for many years, he lived at his current address since 1962.
He worked for ten years for Elton Hildreth as a mechanic and later at the Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Bridgeton for twenty-nine years.
A US Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Bryson served with the 9th Air Force in England, France, Belgium and Germany.
He was a fifty-four year member of the Pearl Street Baptist Church and had served his church as a trustee and an usher. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he enjoyed southern gospel music and doing crossword puzzles. He was also a Phillies fan and enjoyed bowling for many years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Claudette B. McChesney and her husband Bill of Millville and Paula Bryson of Bridgeton, two grandchildren, Jennifer Dixon and her husband Dan and Dwayne McChesney and his wife Amy, four great grandchildren, Dain and Connor Dixon and Hunter and Mason McChesney, two sisters, Louise Davis of Waynesville, NC and Patsy Champ of Rontoul, IL and two brothers, James Bryson of Millville and Frank Byson of Rural Hall, NC. He was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Jo Dotson and Marjorie Barlam.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning December 5th at 11 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton with Rev. James Sheldon of the Pearl Street Baptist Church officiating.
The interment will be made at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 10 until 11.
Memorial contributions are suggested in Mr. Bryson’s memory to the Pearl Street Baptist Church, 139 N. Pearl Street, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
